World Children's Day 2024

Approximately 7.9 million children worldwide face risks and challenges far beyond their capacity. Many still live in extreme poverty, lacking access to basic necessities such as food, sanitation, healthcare, and education.

As an organization that prioritizes children’s rights, Good Neighbors joins this significant day in raising awareness and promoting children’s rights to play, study, health, and more. Learn more about how we implement the rights of the child as the top priority.

World Children’s Day

World Children’s Day, celebrated every 20th of November, is a global day of action for children, by children, indicating the adoption of the Declaration of the Rights of the Child in 1959 and the Convention of the Rights of the Child.

This year, World Children’s Day urges adults to listen to the future—the children. By listening to children, we can understand their needs, hear their voices and ideas for a better world, appreciate their self-expression, and include them in our action priorities.

How Good Neighbors Contributes

Good Neighbors is committed to supporting and achieving children’s rights through a holistic approach to community development. For over 30 years, Good Neighbors has maintained its focus on helping vulnerable children in difficult situations, enabling them to reach their full potential.

CHILDREN ARE EDUCATED

Gadawal Adama lives in Wassoua Village, Cameroon, where she once had to walk up to 7 kilometers to reach her school. Those days are now gone. Good Neighbors has constructed a learning center equipped with two solar-powered classrooms, complete with school furniture, textbooks, a computer, a projector, and teaching materials. Gadawal is one of 162 happy children now enrolled in this new school.

“The new school has made attending classes regularly much easier for us. We no longer have to trek long distances, and we’re eager to be at school every day.”

CHILDREN ARE HEALTHY

Hindiya Menza, a 16-year-old from Ethiopia, was diagnosed with congestive heart disease (CHD) and urgently needed heart surgery. For the past eight years, Good Neighbors has been supporting Hindiya, including funding her heart operation with the help of various donors. Now, she’s healthy and able to attend school and play with her friends.

“Thanks to God, the generous donors, and Good Neighbors Ethiopia, Hindiya’s health has improved significantly. She’s now back in school, resuming her education after the interruption caused by her illness.”

Together, A Good Change for All Children

Good Neighbors is committed to ensuring all children worldwide can enjoy their rights. We work tirelessly to empower children to assert their rights, support parents and neighbors in protecting children, and engage communities in child protection efforts. By doing so, we’re listening to our future and investing in a better world for all.
