Laos Flood Emergency Relief - providing a total of $265,000 as emergency relief

" At the dawn of July 24,
<Residents of Laos are having a hard time due to sudden floods.>

the unexpected floods occurred in the state of Ataf, Laos. The aftermath of the flood caused approximately 13,000 victims and destroyed hundreds of houses in Laos. The residents are having a hard time living.

<Nacka is talking about difficulties caused by flood damage>

“I was asleep, but my parents suddenly woke me up.
When I woke up, the water was covering my body…
I must stay here until I can go back home,
I don’t know what happened to my house now,
I want to stay safe with friends, and a safe place to play."
-Nacka (Female, 11 years old)

Good Neighbors is providing a total of $265,000 as emergency relief to help children in the flood-affected areas for people to get back to living safely and return to their homes. To respond quickly, we dispatched an on-site team to the affected areas to identify the damage situation immediately and discussed the emergency relief activities with the Laos government and the local government.

On past July 29th and 30th, the sanitary kits (soaps, toothbrush, detergent, feminine hygiene products) were distributed to the most urgent victims. In addition, on August 1st, and 2nd, we distributed sanitation kits directly to approximately 3,075 people living in shelters with local government’s help.

“The memory of that day is still vivid to me.
I knew it was raining a lot.
After hearing that flood outbroke,
I quickly evacuated the villagers.
The shelter that we are staying in is too crowded and loud.
I wish that there will be a safe and habitable facility."
-CoCong Village (Female, 22 years old)

Good Neighbors will carry out NFI (non-food) distribution in the future

We are planning to help to build a provisional education facility to help rebuild the areas that are destroyed by the flood. We aim to help children recover from disaster through our child protection program and psychological support programs.

It’s been almost a month after the disaster, but Laos is still suffering physically and psychologically. Please pray and support for residents of Laos to restore their homes and return to their daily life as soon as possible.
